Tooth Fairy

Yesterday David lost his first tooth! It was very loose all day long and when he got home from school it was bothering him. He said he couldn't eat anything. I helped him pull it out with a string. We wrapped a thread around the tooth and crossed it in front - kind of the same method when cutting cinnamon rolls with a thread. The tooth came right out, but it landed in our thick, shaggy, basement carpet. We felt around with our hands but to no avail we couldn't find the tooth. We had to leave to go somewhere and I promised David that when we got home we could search some more. I also explained that the tooth fairy would still come - tooth or no tooth. Later that night we kept on searching but couldn't find it. I had an idea, but I wasn't sure that it would work. I finally decided to give it a try. I put a new bag in the vaccuum and figured when I heard the little tooth go in the vaccuum, we could take the bag off and hopefully find it in there. I started vaccuuming, heard the little rattle of the tooth going up the vaccuum, and to my surprise - we found the tooth! My hand was too big to reach inside the bag and find the tooth, so David did the honors. He was so excited to find his tooth! The tooth fairy came and David claims the money was left under Josh's pillow. I'm not sure how that happened, since David is on the top bunk and I'm sure that the money was left under David's pillow. Oh well, all's well that ends well. And David can truly say that he lost his tooth - he also found it :)

First Day of School

Here are the kids on the first day of School! They were so excited. I think they were all ready 20 minutes early.

Here's Rachel wearing the shrug that we hunted all over the mall for. It was hard to find one that did not come as a set with a tank top. Even though the shrug would have covered her shoulders, she didn't want to be wearing a tank top.

Here is David at his spot at the table. The kids had to go to opposite ends of the school so Rachel was a big third grader and went to her classroom by herself.
It was quite a send off - they released balloons, blared sirens, and blasted Disney's "We're all in this Together" from High School Musical. It's the school song this year. Then, that night we all got to go to the open house for Josh's preschool. He gets to start on Monday and is quite anxious. His preschool looks like it will be a lot of fun. He gets to go 4 days a week for 3 hours each day.

Here are Rachel and David on (the also very important) second day of school. This would have been Rachel's choice for the first day of school but she found out she had P.E. and didn't want to be wearing a skirt. The kids are having a great time and everyone is glad that school has started once again.

Trip to Utah

The kids and I had a great time in Utah! It was a very long drive but well worth it to see friends and family that we haven't seen for a long time. Since Grandma and Grandpa's house was not yet completed, we were able to stay in my Aunt and Uncle's house while they were away. The kids had a great time watching a movie on the giant bean bag.

They had a lot of fun playing with their cousins - Noah and Harrison. We went on a few picnics. This one was especially nice - we went to Mueller park and were able to hunt for rocks in the stream.

Here is a cute picture of Emma that her Aunt Sarah took.
We also went down to Springville to see the Bloomfield cousins. We had a great time swimming and having a nice lunch.

Next time we come, we'll be able to stay in Grandma and Grandpa's new house! It was so fun to see everyone. Now, if only we could somehow shorten the travel time.... then it would be perfect.

School Supplies

The other day we made a trip to the store to buy school supplies. This was actually a first for me (as a mom). In Utah, at least at my kids school, the teachers/school provided all the school supplies. Actually, I guess I did have to buy school supplies when we first moved here in March, when they weren't all over the stores and on sale... Anyway, I haven't seen my kids that excited for a long time. "I need glue sticks!! Washable markers!! Colored pencils!" They were carefully putting what supplies would fit, into their little pencil boxes - in the store. Here are some of the things on the list that surprised me. David needed 12 glue sticks. I guess they do a lot of gluing in first grade. Or maybe they are trying to make up for the kids who don't bring enough. They each needed 2 boxes of Kleenex. With all the property taxes we pay around here, the school can't even provide Kleenex? I guess they are pretty worried about kids having runny noses. I'm surprised they didn't put toilet paper down. The most expensive thing I had to buy was 4 Expo dry erase markers. I wonder why each kid needed 4. And the thing I hate about those kind of markers is that they stain clothes pretty bad. I've tried and tried but those markers set for life. I guess that's the drawback of being able to wipe it easily off of a whiteboard. They still put "no trapper keepers" on the list. I remember those being banned when I was a kid. It's a wonder the company is still in business. Here were some other banned items - mechanical pencils and pencil sharpeners. They also specified that every pencil had to already be sharpened. To Rachel it was kind of a catch-22. No pencil sharpeners but the pencils must be sharpened. I guess you have to do that at home. Anyway, it was pretty fun seeing them so excited for school. Unfortunately, when we bought the supplies, they still had about a month left before school starts. All the stores have everything out and on sale right now. I didn't want to wait fearing that everything would be gone or not on sale any more. The sales were pretty good too - crayons for 20 cents, spiral notebooks for 10 cents, pocket folders for 5 cents, pencil boxes for 50 cents, and paper for 50 cents. If you decided to shop at the dollar store this year for school supplies - you got ripped off. Now I just have to convince my kids not to use their stuff until school starts.
